We’re excited that the Grand Prix of Karting is back! This is a summer tradition that we have truly missed in Quincy. It’s thrilling to have this event to kick off our summer after 17 years! We are proud to announce that IEC will be sponsoring this year’s races.

We wanted to reminisce on the history of Quincy Grand Prix building up to the races this weekend. Gus Traeder held the first race in 1970 during a weekend in June that included 90+ racer entries. Spectators watched from the rolling hills and grassy areas of South Park to see who would win. That’s when the race excitement began in our hometown and became a tradition for 32 years. This summer event sparked amusement in the United States because it was unheard of to have go-karts running on the streets of a city park. At its height, Grand Prix had 600+ entries for its 25th anniversary that included a $25,000 prize.

Terry Traeder, son of Gus Traeder, wanted to bring this tradition back so that our community can experience the next generation of go-karting racing. The wonderful thing about this experience is that it brings families and friends together from all over to create memorable moments over the weekend.
